Starfield (2023) is Bethesda Game Studios’ first new universe in 25 years, and its sweeping orchestral score is the work of veteran composer Inon Zur, performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. Zur has called it his best score to date.
Built to evoke the awe of deep-space exploration, the music carries echoes of classic sci-fi while establishing its own identity for the journey across the Settled Systems.

The Score & Composer: Inon Zur
Inon Zur — the Emmy-winning, BAFTA-nominated composer behind Fallout, Dragon Age and Prince of Persia — wrote Starfield’s music over a remarkably long development, beginning conceptual work back in 2016. He has said roughly 90% of those early ideas survived into the finished game.
Zur fused classical and minimalist elements, name-checking sci-fi greats such as John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith and Vangelis, alongside classical composers like Debussy, Ravel and Prokofiev. The centerpiece “Starfield Suite” and main theme were recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra, giving the score its cinematic scale.
The official soundtrack is available digitally (including on Steam, Apple Music and Spotify) and spans the game’s exploration, city and combat music.
Like other Bethesda RPGs, Starfield uses an adaptive music system: exploration themes drift in gently as you roam planets and cities, then give way to tense, percussive cues when combat begins, so the score responds to how you play rather than looping in the background.
