Who Composed Eileen?
The score for Eileen was composed by Richard Reed Parry, a Canadian multi-instrumentalist best known as a member of Arcade Fire. (Note: this soundtrack has previously been misattributed to a “Richard Reid” — the correct name throughout is Richard Reed Parry.) Eileen was Parry’s second solo feature film score, following his debut on The Nest (2020); he has since gone on to score The Iron Claw (2023). Arcade Fire songs have also appeared in other films, including Love and Monsters (2020) and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (2013), though those were song placements rather than full scores by Parry.
Director William Oldroyd, a longtime Arcade Fire fan, brought on Parry after admiring his work on The Nest. Both cited Bernard Herrmann’s score for Taxi Driver (1976) as a key reference point, and critics have widely praised the result as a “jazzy,” “wonderfully arch” score that blends noir tension with 1960s atmosphere.
