About Walden
Walden Dean (Emile Hirsch) is a polite, withdrawn court stenographer who is estranged from his father and haunted by a complicated relationship with his late mother. After a disturbing case leaves him shaken, he faints at work, and tests reveal a possibly terminal brain tumor. Confronting his own mortality awakens a repressed capacity for violence, and Walden starts targeting criminals, including a child killer and a nursing-home abuser, who evaded justice, while Detective Bill Kane (Shane West) and his partner Sally Hunt (Tania Raymonde) investigate a separate string of disappearances that eventually connects back to Walden’s own courtroom.
Who Composed Walden’s Soundtrack?
Mathieu Carratier composed the original score for Walden. The French composer and music producer moved from a career as a magazine editor in Paris to scoring films in Los Angeles, starting with director Franck Khalfoun’s thriller i-Lived (2015). He has since scored the indie horror film Delirium, the documentary For Love (narrated by Shania Twain), and reunited with Khalfoun for Night of the Hunted (2023). Carratier has also co-written and produced individual songs that appeared in the soundtracks of Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, The Transporter Refueled, and Amityville: The Awakening, though he was not the credited score composer on those larger studio films.
Notably, Carratier spent two years co-writing and producing two full-length albums with Walden star Emile Hirsch under the musical duo name “HIRSCH”: Mnemonic (2019) and Denihilism (2021). That collaboration carried over into Carratier scoring Hirsch’s film, and the two later reunited again on the 2024 thriller Dead Money.
Carratier’s Walden score was released digitally on December 12, 2023 (roughly a month after the film’s theatrical debut), running just over 50 minutes across 25 tracks. It’s available to stream on Apple Music, Amazon Music, Spotify, and YouTube.
