Sebastian Fitzeks Die Therapie (English: Sebastian Fitzek’s Therapy) is a six-episode German psychological thriller series that premiered on Prime Video on October 26, 2023. Season 1 adapts Sebastian Fitzek’s best-selling debut novel of the same name, and Fitzek himself contributed to the screenplay alongside creator and writer Alexander M. Rümelin. Directing duties were split between Thor Freudenthal and Iván Sáinz-Pardo.
About the Story
Josy, the 13-year-old daughter of respected psychiatrist Dr. Viktor Larenz, vanishes without a trace during a routine doctor’s visit. Two years later, a grieving Viktor retreats with his dog Sindbad to a vacation home on the fictional North Sea island of Parkum. His solitude is broken when a mysterious young woman, Anna Spiegel, shows up asking him to be her therapist, even though he no longer practices. Anna says she suffers from hallucinations in which a little girl keeps appearing — and one of the novels she’s writing eerily mirrors Josy’s disappearance. As Viktor digs for answers, the series builds to a major psychological twist that calls his own memory, and his role in Josy’s fate, into question. The Parkum scenes were filmed on the real North Sea islands of Föhr and Amrum, with additional filming in and around Berlin.

Composer of Sebastian Fitzeks Die Therapie
Johannes Kobilke (born October 1, 1973, in Gräfelfing, Bavaria) composed the score. A graduate of the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, Kobilke has scored German film and television for more than two decades, including the horror films The Midnight Meat Train (2008) and Pathology (2008), plus dozens of episodes of long-running German crime series like Tatort and Kommissarin Heller. He is a member of both the European Film Academy and the German Film Academy.
Reception
Die Therapie drew a largely positive response from German critics. Tittelbach.tv favorably compared its late twists to Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island, and Focus Online called it “a thrilling rollercoaster ride.” As of this writing, Prime Video has not announced a second season — Season 1 wraps up the story from Fitzek’s novel in full.
