She took a break from her music career in 2008 due to her disease. In a conversation, she talks about her suffering period and her disease.

Missy Elliott, is courageous, challenging, and bold as always. These qualities make her different from others. In a talk, she spoke about her Graves Disease Diagnosis and her comeback.
Elliott said, “Coming off of being sick and having a hiatus, that was like a ‘wow’ moment for me, It was almost like God was saying, ‘I’m gonna show you what I could do for you in three minutes.”
The 52-year-old singer added, “It causes hair loss, your eyes bulge,” she had previously told Billboard. “My blood pressure was always up from just overworking.”

She continues, “I remember Mary coming up to me, and she was like, You are a superstar, And at the time, I didn’t pay it no mind because I really didn’t think that at all. But she kept telling me that, and me and I became really close.”
It takes courage to publically talk about their personal life sufferings, she was always loved by her fans, and she is the most important member of the music family.
She recently released her new album named Fly Girl, which is making noise.
