Thor: Ragnarok (2017) is the third film in the Thor sub-series and the 17th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following Thor (2011) and Thor: The Dark World (2013). Directed by Taika Waititi, it recast the franchise as a vivid, comedy-driven space adventure and became the best-reviewed Thor film to date. It was produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, and released theatrically on November 3, 2017.
The story finds Thor imprisoned on the junk planet Sakaar, forced to fight as a gladiator, while racing to stop Ragnarök — the prophesied destruction of Asgard — at the hands of his estranged sister Hela, the Goddess of Death.

Who Composed the Thor: Ragnarok Soundtrack?
Mark Mothersbaugh composed the score, his first outing scoring a Marvel Cinematic Universe film. Mothersbaugh is the co-founder, lead singer, and keyboardist of the new wave band Devo, and built a prolific film and TV composing career afterward, including scores for Wes Anderson films such as The Royal Tenenbaums and long-running work on The Lego Movie and Cartoon Network’s Rugrats. For Ragnarok, he combined analog synthesizers reminiscent of his Devo days with a full orchestra to give the film a retro, cosmic sound distinct from earlier MCU scores — a deliberate homage to 1980s synth and pulp sci-fi. The soundtrack also folds in a snippet of Patrick Doyle’s theme from the original 2011 Thor in the track “Where To?”
Beyond the score, the film is also well known for its needle-drop use of Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song,” which plays over both the opening battle with Surtur and the climactic escape from Sakaar — though that song is a licensed track and is not included on the official score album below.
