Directed by Angharad Scott & John Dower, Lockerbie is a documentary drama series. The series was produced by Mindhouse Productions and distributed by SKY Studios.

The series tells the incredible true story of Britain’s deadliest terrorist atrocity and the most fatal terrorist attack on America before 9/11.

The documentary recounts the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 in 1988, when 270 people lost their lives, this four-part documentary presents the hunt for the bombers and the personal and public struggles of the victims’ families.

Note: this 2023 Sky/Mindhouse documentary series is a separate production from the later scripted drama “Lockerbie: A Search for Truth” (2025), which stars Colin Firth as Dr. Jim Swire and was made by Carnival Films for Sky and Peacock. Both cover the same disaster but are different shows with different creative teams.

Who composed the Lockerbie Soundtrack?

Tim Atack composed the music for Lockerbie. He is a great composer and known for his works The Invention of Lying, The Mystery of D.B. Cooper, Wham!, Don’t Look Down, and Reuniting the Rubins.

Tim Atack is an internationally acclaimed film and TV composer with credits including Cemetery Junction, FIFA Uncovered, and the Netflix feature and film festival hit Wham!

Atack scored Lockerbie for his frequent collaborator, director John Dower, using a restrained, mostly instrumental palette built around short cues that underline the documentary’s interview segments and archival footage rather than a conventional theme-driven score — fitting for a factual series built on first-hand testimony from victims’ families and investigators. The series went on to win the BAFTA Television Award for Best Factual Series in 2024, one of the highest honors for British documentary work.
