Who Composed the Doom Eternal Soundtrack?
The music was composed by Mick Gordon, an Australian composer, musician, and sound designer known for his work on video game scores. Beyond the Doom series, he’s best known for Wolfenstein: The New Order, Wolfenstein: The Old Blood, Prey (2017), Killer Instinct, LawBreakers, and Atomic Heart.
The soundtrack’s release was overshadowed by a well-documented dispute between Gordon and id Software. After the official soundtrack arrived with mixing issues that frustrated fans, id Software’s executive producer Marty Stratton posted an open letter in May 2020 stating that Gordon had missed delivery deadlines, and that id’s audio lead Chad Mossholder stepped in to mix and complete much of the album, including tracks used in the game’s DLC. Gordon disputed that account in a detailed November 2022 statement, saying “I never quit Doom. I quit a toxic client,” and alleging he was never paid for a significant portion of the music used in the game. Bethesda and id Software have stood by Stratton and Mossholder’s version of events. Whatever the cause, several tracks on the official release — including “The Khan Maykr” remix and “Fortress of Doom” — are directly credited to Mossholder rather than Gordon.
