Swifties Crash AMC App as Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Movie Tickets Go On Sale

What did you forget about the Eraz Tour when it came through your city? Don’t worry, you still have the chance to see it but this time, on the big screen.

Swifties’ support for Taylor Swift is so strong that they crashed an entire app.

After the “Anti-Hero” singer surprised fans by announcing her Eraz Tour concert was being turned into a movie, fans flooded the AMC app to purchase tickets, causing the site to crash.

According to Collider, the app shared a message that read that online reservations are temporarily unavailable due to over-volume, and that anyone looking to purchase tickets must visit their local AMC theater in person.

Swift broke the news in an Instagram post on Thursday (August 31) morning, which has received more than 5.3 million likes in less than seven hours.

“The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon,” she announced alongside a Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour trailer. “Starting Oct 13th you’ll be able to experience the concert film in theaters in North America!”

Taylor Swift added, “Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged.”

The surprise announcement sparked a mad rush for tickets among Swifties, causing Ticketmaster to crash in several countries when tickets for the first actual concerts became available.

AMC made this claim anticipating huge demand “bolstered its ticket server capacity to handle traffic at more than 5 times the current record for the most ever tickets sold in an hour.”

However, customers still had to wait long periods of time to access the app, while others received a message saying online reservations were not available at the time.

“#TSTheErasTourFilm has overwhelmed the AMC app to such an extent there’s now a wait to simply have it load… HER POWER,” someone tweeted.

In a press release, the theater chain detailed the steps they had taken “to ensure that theater programs are accessible and affordable for all who wish to attend.”

Billboard has contacted AMC for more details. “AMC is also aware that no ticketing system in history seems to have been able to accommodate the soaring demand from Taylor Swift fans when tickets are first placed on sale. Guests wanting to be the first to buy their tickets online may experience delays, longer-than-usual ticket-purchase waiting-room times, and possible outages. AMC is committed to ensuring any delays or outages are addressed as quickly as possible,” the group told The Hollywood Reporter earlier in the day.

When the film opens in October, all U.S. AMC locations will have four showtimes daily from Thursday through Sunday. In addition, tickets for Taylor Swift: The Eraz Tour will be available at a discounted price, with adult tickets available for as low as $19.89. An adult ticket at AMC Theaters usually goes for $24.99.
