The singer-songwriter sent out a newsletter to her followers on Sunday night (July 23), which featured a voice note in which she disclosed the title of her future album. She also said that the album’s first song, which has yet to be named, will be released on Wednesday (July 26).
“Hi, this is Mitski, and I’m at Bomb Shelter Studios in Nashville, where we recorded my new album that’s coming out. It’s called ‘The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We’, and its first single is coming out on Wednesday,” she said in the voice memo.

The notification provided did not reveal other information about the impending album, such as a release date or track listing. ‘The Land Is Inhospitable And So Are We,’ the much-awaited follow-up to Mitski’s critically acclaimed sixth album ‘Laurel Hell,’ will be released in February 2022.
The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We do not yet have a release date, but it will be Mitski’s follow-up to Laurel Hell, which was released in early 2022. She achieved another milestone with Laurel Hell after becoming the top-selling album in the United States that same year: her track “The Only Heartbreaker” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Adult Alternative Airplay chart. It was the first time one of her songs has reached the top of the Billboard charts.
‘Laurel Hell’ was rated NME’s 21st best album of 2022, with Rhian Daly complimenting she for “deftly analyzing the intersection of art and self-worth with the sharpness of the titular tool in ‘Working For The Knife’.”
