On Tuesday, the singer was sued for sexual harassment when Beyonce dropped Lizzo’s name during her performance of Break My Soul (The Queens Remix).
It was reported that the Juice singer was accused of sexual harassment, Weight Shaming, and creating a hostile work environment in a lawsuit filed by three of her former dancers.
In Foxboro, during a performance at Gillette Stadium on Tuesday, Beyonce dropped Lizzo’s name during the section where she recounts a list of influential black female artists.
She typically sings, “Solange Knowles, (Erykah) Badu, Lizzo, Kelly Rowl,” however, according to video footage posted on social media, she changed the line to: “Solange Knowles, Badu, Badu, Badu, Badu.”
Lizzo captioned the June Instagram clip “In that moment I was thinking about baby me, listening to Happy Face by Destiny’s child and crying myself to sleep because of bullies,”
She continued: “I thought about Beyonce jumping into the room where Tina Turner was waiting to meet her for the first time. I think of what we all mean to people and how cyclical it is. We are all so infinitesimally and maximally connected and significant. It’s an honor. Thank You @ Beyonce 💖.”
They claimed that they were subjected to sexual, religious, and racial harassment, as well as disability discrimination, aggression, and wrongful confinement, while on the dancing team.
Hours after the lawsuit was reported, Courtney Hollinquest wrote on her Instagram Stories, “For clarification, I’m not a part of the lawsuit – but this was very much my experience in my time there. Big shoutout to the dancers who had the courage to bring this to light.”
Quinn Whitney Wilson, Lizzo’s former creative director reshared the post, claiming that she had a similar experience.
“I haven’t been a part of that world for around three years, for a reason,” Wilson wrote. “I very much applaud the dancer’s courage to bring this to light. And I grieve parts of my own experience (sic).”
The vocalist of About Damn Time has yet to respond to the charges.
Ron Zambrano in a statement on Tuesday “The stunning nature of how Lizzo and her management team treated their performers seems to go against everything Lizzo stands for publicly, while privately she weight-shames her dancers and demeans them in ways that are not only illegal but absolutely demoralizing,”
However, Davis and Williams claim that “While at Bananenbar, things quickly got out of hand. Lizzo began inviting cast members to take turns touching the nude performers, catching dildos launched from the performers’ vaginas, and eating bananas protruding from the performers’ vaginas,” the lawsuit states. “Lizzo then turned her attention to Ms. Davis and began pressuring Ms. Davis to touch the breasts of one of the nude women performing at the club.”
