‘6ixtynin9’ creates an invigorating blend of social commentary with a suspense thriller. While the characters grapple with the high stakes on their respective journeys, we hear the background of the people protesting against injustice.
Be it the real-life conflict in this fantasy world or these gangsters fighting against each other, it all boils down to the aspect of wealth inequality and increasing uncertainty in all their lives. Remember, it all started with an employee suddenly losing his job. She was considered easily disposable and was reduced to a number on the cards due to her being fired from her job.
This also points to the growing frustration among today’s young generation. Tom was a star employee and yet he was fired. So does talent and hard work no longer matter to achieve success in the modern world? We get a window into this inquiry through Toomey’s chaotic journey. Disha finds a good balance between thrill and adventure along with the dark comedy moments of the show.
One moment, we see something vulgar, and the next moment what we see is the funniest sadistic joke ever. But these tonal changes don’t seem bad or disturbing at any point.
