Splatoon 3 is an upcoming third-person streaming video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch console. It is the third title in the Splatoon series, following its predecessor, Splatoon 2. The game is based on a stylish world where players control stars named Inklings and Octolings, who engage in colorful and fast-paced equine-based battles.

The game was first shown in a teaser trailer on 17 February 2021 and was later released on 9 September 2022. The game received generally favorable reviews, with praise for its additional maps, single-player campaign, customization options, and gameplay mechanics, but criticism for its matchmaking and disconnection issues and lack of new content.

As of 31 March 2023, Splatoon 3 has sold 10.67 million copies worldwide, making it the fastest-selling game in the franchise and one of the best-selling Switch games.

Splatoon 3 (Gameplay)

Like its predecessors in the Splatoon series, Splatoon 3 is a third-person shooter. Players choose either an Inkling or an Octoling as their player character. Both wield weapons that use colored ink as ammunition. Weapons are diverse in capability and imagery, most of which resemble household items.

For example, rollers are large paint rollers that can cover large amounts of area in ink but are generally limited to close-range combat.

Also, chargers are weapons that resemble sniper rifles and have a longer range for sniping at opponents but are less effective at covering the ground. Splatoon 3 expands the game by adding new main, sub, and special weapons.

Main weapons can be selected by the player, sub weapons are assigned to the main weapons and act as secondary weapons that use more ink, while special weapons are also assigned to specific main weapons and give the player different abilities. The amount of ink required to cover different ground is different from the amount of ink required to charge it. Inklings and Octolings have the ability to transform into squid or octopus form respectively.

This form is known as “swim form”, and can be used to climb ink-covered walls or swim through ink faster than the human form can walk. The weapons have a limited amount of ink ammunition, and this is replenished faster than the human form by submerging in ink through swimming. All the basic weapons from previous Splatoon games return in Splatoon 3.

Splatoon 3 is the original soundtrack of Splatoon 3. It was released in Japan on 26 April 2023. It consists of four discs and includes both the game’s soundtrack and the Deep Cut concert at Nintendo Live 2022.
