Who Composed the Spirit Untamed Soundtrack?
Amie Doherty composed the score, becoming the first woman to compose a feature film for DreamWorks Animation and the second composer to score a Spirit film, following Hans Zimmer’s work on the original Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (2002). Doherty blended orchestral writing with acoustic and nylon guitars, mariachi trumpets, and bluegrass fiddle to reflect the film’s Western setting and Milagro’s Mexican heritage. Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold contributed vocal harmonies to the score alongside actress Eiza González.
Doherty also wrote the original song “Fearless,” a lullaby used three times in the film, including a version performed by Jake Gyllenhaal (as Lucky’s father Jim) that is not included on the soundtrack album.
